How To Layer A White Shirt

Master the art of layering for both practical and stylish necessity. Your favourite white shirt can work all year round – worn both under and over different garments – allowing for the chicest of looks. Here are some of Sophie Cameron Davies’ tips for how to layer a white shirt:

Hemlines

To create a flattering silhouette, play with contrasting hemlines. If your white shirt has a rounded hemline, opt for a chunky knit with a boxy straight hem, and vice versa. This allows for each piece to standout and a softer layered look. Allow the hemlines to fall on the most flattering part of your figure. If a jumper is slightly too short and crops at your widest point pair with a longline white shirt drawing the eye down.

Monochrome

Keep it simple with an effortless monochrome colour palette. The new collection of casual cotton jersey pieces are a transitional wardrobe essential. Perfect for shirt layering the BLACK SEQUIN SLEEVE JUMPER can be worn with various complimentary tops underneath. For work we would choose the timeless CLASSIC SILK SHIRT IVORY and for weekend add a long sleeve black top for warmth.

Poloneck

My go to garment this winter has been the poloneck top. This all-rounder can be used to maintain longevity from a host of other pieces. Keeping your favourite white shirt warm throughout the colder months and allowing you to wear those pretty summer dresses when you least expect. We love a poloneck with the CLASSIC SILK SHIRT IVORY, adding lighter and more neutral colours to the transitional wardrobe.

Pattern & Print

As the days slowly edge closer to spring, we start to think about introducing a more colourful palette to the darker winter tones. The perfect way to introduce a pop of colour into your transitional wardrobe is with a hint of print. Pick out some warmer tones in an understated print and layer with your white shirt. My favourite is the CROP FLORAL SWEATSHIRT or the BLACK FLORAL COTTON T-SHIRT.
